Paul Chamberlain update

We’re in Vietnam living and working. I’ve got an apartment I’m renting and a scooter which I’m also renting. I have to teach in a shirt and tie so riding 6km in the heat is unrealisitic. It’s cool though – I quite like cruising to work on a scooter. It beats… Well. . .actually it’s the only way to get anywhere in Vietnam. It’s way cheaper to rent a scooter and put fuel in it than to get a cab.

I’ve been getting plenty of riding done lately. Get a few hours in almost every day so it’s like old times again. I’d like to say that I was working on some new stuff but I think playing around with some new stuff would probably be more specific. Some backwards whiplash stuff and barflip things are going at the moment but it’s all very casual. I’m changing what I’m doing a lot so I don’t spend that much time trying to do one thing. I finally learnt multiple whiplashes after having a mental block about doing them – I’ve always had to stop in an opposite hang 5 because of an accident that I had:

In 2005 I was trying to learn them in the rain and I slipped off a peg – but because I was concentrating on not letting go of the bars I ground off part of a good deal of flesh and a 2.5 fingernails. Well after reading Martti’s site and hearing about him giving up all of his vices I thought enough is enough – I’ve got a whiplash vice!!! The tipping point I suppose was when I learnt opposite one-handed whiplashes.

I mean come on it’s completely ridiculous to have to stop every whiplash in an opposite hang five right?!?!?!? Well I went out and learnt multiples and now feel really good – Like a weight off of my shoulders. I made it up to 8 today and that’s all my spot really allows so I’m stoked. Anyway, I’m back riding a lot now and feeling pretty good about it. There’s a weeks holiday for Chinese New Year so I’m looking to ride all week. There are a lot of good points about being in one place and a constant environment. I’m enjoying having a routine again.

We lost the charger for our camera so we’ve got no new pics but I’d like to share some pics that we’re taken by my sisters boyfriend when we travelled around Cambodia together a couple of months ago. These pics were taken from inside a tuk tuk – which is a kind of taxi – basically a large trailer with bench seating pulled by a scooter. Cheap and a fun way to travel and get all the sights, sounds and smells. I love Cambodia – it’s such an interesting place…

New rider to Melbourne!

Paul Chamberlain gave us the word that Eiji Kataoka from Osaka, Japan will soon be moving to Melbourne. His plan was to spend a few months studying & riding but after looking into it more looks like he’s going to be staying for maybe up to a couple of years.

Stoked. The Melbourne scene is strong – this is only going make it better!
