Jason Plourde – Part 1

At the beginning of October 2009, my good friend J-W Prevost asked me if i wanted to go to Thailand with him. For sure! I said. Then a few days after he called me to tell me bad news: he broke his wrist trying to jump a huge jump box. So to all the flatlanders riding this, DONT TRY THIS AT HOME HAHA!! I still had my plane ticket and so I decided that I would go on my own, since I haven’t been out of China for 3 years now!!! 12th of October I was flying to Bangkok in Thailand, from China. Got there at midnight and then had to wait 8 hours for Toon to show up and help me going to Khaosan Road ( which is like the main tourist area in Bangkok i guess and really close to the riding spots). What is really nice in Thailand, is that everybody goes there to chill, so it’s pretty easy to make friend with anyone, anywhere. So I made a new friend at the airport while waiting for Toon. Then Toon finaly came around 8 a.m. to pick me up. Then we headed for Khaosan road in the traffic, which took like one hour. When we got there, he helped me finding a place to stay. There is a bunch of guesthouse and hotel rooms ( if it can help anybody who plans to go in Bangkok, stay in a place only for 2 or 3 days, because you might find some better place for cheaper prices, and you don’t have to pay a big amount for the deposit). I took a nap, then built my bike to go out for a session with Toon. I was all messed up from not sleeping enough, the weather was pretty hot, something like 30 degrees plus humidity and Toon had a flat tire when we got there so i just rode for half an hour, even the thai redbull didn’t boost me enough!

I headed back to my hotel room where I took a nap. Woke up at midnight and went to 711 for a Chang beer, but to my surprise, they don’t sell beers in stores after midnight in Khaosan road. I then met that guy from the UK who invited me to go for a drink, and then the party started. I went to a random hotel bar, then to the Gulliver’s club and then to Bossi, another night club. All I can about this is  AWESOME!!!! If you like asian chicks, that’s the place!!! Fun times in Thailand.

Next day, I went riding on my own to the spot you can see on the picture with my bike. I asked the police officer if it was cool. They told me it was ok, but I had to wait for about 10 minutes. I waited, and I saw all these guys with the bison hat waiting in a huge line, for I don’t know what. And then I knew what was going on. THE CONVOY OF THE KING was on it’s way. They blocked the road to let pass around, let’s say 10 cars, the patrol and the king himself. Then i rode for about 1 hour and a half to get interrupted again, because the King was back on the road with even more vehicles and buses, I could’nt believe what I was seeing. Then I rode for a bit again. I got pretty bored when I got back at the hotel, so I decided I would do what I do when I chill in China, go drink some beers at 711!!!!! Then I went out walking and like magic, there was a free Ska music show on the street. I ended dancing, drinking and smoking cigarets with the gypsys that live around the spot. Then I went to the bar again, and met that crazy chick on the picture. One night I had to go get the security to get her out of my room because she wouldn’t leave and I was about to punch her straight in the face. I decided it was better to let other people handle it.

Saturday, the 17th, there was a jam at Toon’s spot! Everybody was so chill. There was around 8 to 10 riders there. I tried to do my best, but was too much in party mode to perform. I thought I didn’t ride that well, but then when I went back to China that guy Chaowalit hooked me up with some of his pegs he made himself. Thanks a lot to him, I really love the pegs!!! There was Ping and Toon, who got trained by Martti, and they got their riding so dialed. Some of the other riders are beginners, so I helped them out with tips so they could get better at riding. Some street riders showed up, and told me they knew some people from Quebec, the world is pretty small!!! It was a really nice session, I can’t wait to go back there to ride again with all these cool dudes.

Two days after that, I was heading back home. When I got back I knew I was in China, most of the people sneezing, coughing, spitting, and yelling hahaha!! And then I saw that advertizing on the stairs, if you look long enough you will notice the mistake (it’s like that everywhere in China). I enjoy my time in China but I really miss Thailand. I hope some of you riders out there will get the chance to go in Thailand too, enjoy the hot weather, riding and girls!!!
